Making food systems able to withstand climate change in West Africa: Zakari Ali, MRC Unit The Gambia

Zakari Ali is PhD student based at MRC Unit The Gambia at London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

Zakari’s research focuses on finding ways for West African food systems to adapt to the negative consequences of climate change.

Climate change is already affecting the ability of food systems in West Africa to produce the food that they need, in particular the vulnerable who rely solely on the food they can produce in their own farms.

“This is even projected to become worse in the future and yet these countries have contributed very little to the negative impacts. I hope that by the end of COP26 there’ll be clear deliverable strategies to build the capacities of these countries to cope against the negative consequences of climate change on food systems in West Africa”, says Zakari.
