I made the tea time so TEMPTING with mix of tastes | "അവലും മിക്സ്ചറും" | Aval & Mixture
Hello every one. A warm welcome to my "Tharavadu"...Today the sky is so cloudy. This is the condition in Kerala for past few days. So I made today's rainy evening sweet and crunchy with sweetness of "aval" & spicy bite of "mixture". If there is a cup of nice tea, it will become more precious and joyful.
Morning, me and my husband collected areca nut which started spoiling due to the heavy rain. these areca nuts are sun dried for 42 days and then its shell is removed and sell in market.
after the lunch I started making some mixture and "aval vilayichathu" , a best combo for evening snack. For mixture I took 1 cup gram flour and divided into equal parts for making boondi batter and sev dough. Red chilli powder, turmeric, salt, ginger garlic paste, asafoetida are added to gram flour for the spiciness. along with sev and boondi, peanut, roasted gram, green chilli, red chilli, dried coconut, curry leaf are deep fried and added to mixture. This can be stored for 1 month.
For aval vilayichathu, jaggery is dissolved and filtered first. Then pieced dried coconut and grated coconut are added to jaggery and cook for 5-10 minutes. By doing so coconut will be well cooked in jaggery( this process gives more life to "aval vilayichathu").Aval and banana are added. Then some dried ginger-jeera powder and ghee are added for taste(optional). This can be stored for 2 weeks.
Under the shadow of cloud, I want to enjoy the music of rain along with this combo.
A pleasant day with family. Happy evening to all.
I am Namitha. I born and bought up in a small village in Kerala. I am a food lover like my father. I also love to do farming , Crafting and I get the base knowledge from my father. I used to stay in city also, but where ever I go, always try to maintain tradition and passion as much I can.
I always try to make things different , so I started gardening, ornament making etc.
Whenever came to hometown I spend most of the time in our families "Tharavadu" where I get several knowledge's and ancient utilities and many more. simply sitting on verandah while raining will give some special nostalgic feeling. Food is always a precious thing which makes us happy throughout the day. Rasakkoottu is started with my interest in cooking. Through my videos, my intention is to recreate old lifestyle and cooking techniques and visualize those memories to the new generation when ever I am at my home town. I also would like to picturize current food cooking styles in possible traditional way when ever I stay in city. I always like to explore more on traditional cooking within and outside Kerala too. I personally like to prepare the foods by my self and enjoy to serve it to family. There are lots of back end support from all family members even though they are not ready to come in front of camera. Special thanks to them too.
Hope you enjoy my videos.
Thank You
Namitha A
