More than 80 per cent of Indians live in districts vulnerable to extreme climate events such as floods, droughts and cyclones. The states of Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Bihar are most prone to climate risks. What does this mean for people who are the most vulnerable? How are they responding to the climate crisis?
Our project 'Humanising Climate Risks' narrates the human experiences from some of India's climate extreme events' hotspots and complements the data by providing an on-ground perspective. It goes beyond stories of loss and damage and captures the coping mechanisms and resilience practices. In this film, we draw lessons in climate resilience from the narratives of Madhava Mallick, Bengala Rout, Ajay Kumar, Sumati, Kalpana and Amit.
India's development is intricately linked to creating adequate mitigation capacity to respond to climate risks and community leadership is inspiring India's efforts in building climate resilience.
