Scientists Developed Pain Free Sugar/Diabetes Test

Over 422 million people worldwide have diabetes causing 1.6 million diabetes related deaths each year. For managing the blood sugar levels patients have to prick their finger multiple times a day and then place a drop of blood on the testing strip. Many patients avoid this painful process by not testing which can have serious repercussions in long term.

Australian scientists have developed a new pain free test that checks glucose levels via saliva. Scientists have embedded an enzyme into transistor. This enzyme detects the presence of glucose via saliva and gives as accurate results as finger pricking test. Scientists are hoping to use this technology for other tests such as COVID-19 testing, hormone and cancer testing.
