Pegasus, developed by NSO Group, is perhaps the most powerful spyware ever created. It is designed to infiltrate smartphones — Android and iOS — and turn them into surveillance devices, which gather your data and forward it to a third party without your consent.
Once installed on a phone, Pegasus can intercept and steal more or less any information on it, including SMS es, contacts, call history, calendars, emails, and browsing histories. It can use your phone’s microphone to record calls and other conversations, secretly film you with its camera, or track you with GPS
The (relatively) easy way to determine if we are being monitored is to use the Amnesty International Mobile Verification Toolkit (MVT). This tool can run under either Linux or macOS and can examine the files and configuration of your mobile device by analyzing a backup taken from the phone. While the analysis won’t confirm or disprove whether a device is compromised, it detects “indicators of compromise” which can provide evidence of infection.
How to minimize exposure:
Only open links from known and trusted contacts and sources when using your device.
Make sure your device is updated with any relevant patches and upgrades
Avoid public and free WiFi services (including hotels), especially when accessing sensitive information
Encrypt your device data and enable remote-wipe features where available
