Report: Liverpool could make last-ditch attempt to sign midfielder with 'good vision' for £21m

Liverpool could make a last-ditch attempt to sign Leandro Paredes, according to reports. The player is expected to leave Paris Saint-Germain.

This comes from CalcioMercatoWeb. They claim that Liverpool do hold an interest in Paris Saint-Germain midfielder, Leandro Paredes.

The player will almost certainly leave France this summer and Juventus appear to be the most interested. They’re trying to push through a deal – but Liverpool could get in their way.

Pardes is said to be worth around £21m to PSG right now. Their abundance of midfielders makes the 28-year-old surplus to requirements, having joined in 2019. His arrival sparked then-boss Thomas Tuchel to label him a player with ‘good vision’ but Paredes never really established himself at the club.

Now he’s set to move and Liverpool could try and snatch him up.

This is the second outlet to name Liverpool as a potential suitor for Paredes. Argentina’s TNT Sports said similar this week – but we’re still not buying it.

Paredes is after regular football here and he wouldn’t get it at Liverpool. And at 28, we’re not sure he’s the investment that the Reds want to make. There are also reports that the midfielder is very close to joining Juventus and it feels almost done.

Liverpool would have to look elsewhere, then. £21m for Paredes wouldn’t be the worst deal in the world but we think they can do better. At the very least, they could find a better long-term option or someone they can develop themselves.

Paredes doesn’t offer that, given he’s largely at the peak of his powers. We’re not convinced those powers are really good enough to make a difference at Liverpool. If Juventus truly are pushing to sign the Argentine, we imagine they’ll get him.

That isn’t to say that Liverpool definitely won’t find the right deal in the coming week. It’s looking unlikely, of course, but they’ll surely keep their eyes open.
