The track laying on Aksu-Aral Railway in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region came to completion Thursday, as workers laid the last sets of 500-meter-long rails along the line.

The railway line connects Awat County of Aksu Prefecture to Aral City in Xinjiang and has a total length of 114.6 kilometers, with a design speed of 120 kilometers per hour. It will be used for transport of both passengers and cargo.

"On the basis of ensuring safety, we laid five kilometers of rails every day. Next, we will fine-tune the rails," said Liu Chaodong, senior employee with the railway's contractor.

Awat County is known as the hub of China's quality cotton. When it opens in 2022, it will pave the way for rail transport of local cotton to other regions, promoting local economic development.
