Oregon native dies of extremely rare blood clot associated with J&J vaccine

An Oregon native recently died of a rare blood clotting disorder linked to the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. She's the fourth person in the country to die from it.

The FDA paused use of the vaccine earlier this year to study the blood clotting side effects, but resumed use after 11 days because researchers found the benefits outweighed the risks. More than 15 million doses of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine have been administered across the country and there have been four deaths.

The CDC says it sees about seven cases of vaccine-inducted thrombotic thrombocytopenia (VITT) for every 1 million women who get the shot, and estimates the vaccine prevents approximately 300 hospitalizations for every 1 million women.
