(11 Sep 2021) Rescue teams in Mexico continued searching for survivors Saturday after a landslide demolished homes in a neighbourhood on the outskirts of the capital.
Massive boulders rolled down a steep hillside, crushing buildings in their way.
At least one person was killed and ten remain missing, four of them children.
Friday's landslide in Tlalnepantla in Mexico state followed heavy rain in central Mexico and a 7.0-magnitude earthquake earlier in the week in Acapulco some 200 miles away.
Search and rescue teams deployed specially-trained sniffer dogs to try to detect signs of life, or seek out victims.
Authorities are concerned that further landslides could follow.
Search efforts are complicated by the enormous size of the rocks that fell and the narrow streets complicating the entrance of heavy machinery.
Authorities are calling for all citizens to stay away from the area as it is still considered risky.
At least 80 residents have been evacuated from their homes.
