Metropolitan Police Department 160th Anniversary

On August 6, 1861, amidst the Civil War, MPD was born by an Act of Congress, signed into law by President Lincoln. During one of the most trying times of our country’s history, MPD was brought into existence to secure law and order in the nation’s capital. Today, August 6, 2021, marks 160 years of progress, of pushing forward the field of policing to new heights of excellence.
