Do Snake Bites hurt? How do you avoid snake bites? I get these questions all the time. The reason you never see me get bitten by snakes in the videos is because I am careful to not take a bite at all and also, showing snake bites on YouTube isn't cool. The idea here is to make people feel better about snakes, to not be afraid of reptiles. SO if you have a ball python, corn snake, boa, whatever, here is how we can avoid the teeth and focus on the beauty of these animals. First of all, don't handle snakes when the smell of food, rats, mice, etc. are in the room. Secondly, there is no shame in using a hook, or even using reptile gloves or a thick glove. The goal is to enjoy these animals, not be stressed out by them. Second, read your animals, Is the tongue flicking slow, fast, is the snake moving in a way that seems like they are scared or maybe hungry, looking for food? Experience and common sense really are the name of the game here. Of course a bite isn't the end of the world. If you do get bit by a snake, remain calm. Non-venomous snakes aren't going to be able to kill you just from a bite and usually the injury isn't an injury at all, just a superficial mark or maybe a drop or two of blood. Nothing scary, no big deal, and snake bites are very rarely the cause of infection. These really are amazing creatures!
