SOT, Local (German): "We are witnessing the complete demise of the entire Altenahr route. It looks as if a bomb has hit, like World War."
SOT, Locals (German): "We have relatives here, that's why we are here. We brought some food and told them straight away that if they needed more, they could call us. Then they'll get new ones. It's crazy. We just found out that their daughter is staying with friends."
SOT, Mr. Schneider, Local (German): "I just spoke to my car dealer here. He doesn't know where his father lives, he lives here in Altenburg, right at the beginning of it, in an apartment building. And he doesn't know at all, because he doesn't answer the phone, whether his father lives or where he is."
SOT, Mr. Schneider, Local (German): "What you see here is a major disaster that I've witnessed for the first time. We are standing here at the exit of the tunnel, the highway connection. And then you can look down towards the entrance to Altenahr and quite a bit has already been swept away."
SOT, Local (German): "There was a flood here in 2016, but it was not as catastrophic as this time. Helicopters were also used then, but the destruction that is here now is unbelievable."
